The Cure For Hatred

Romans 5:5: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

The love of God is the cure for hatred.

2 Corinthians 13:5: Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

A simple clue that will help us examine ourselves is whether or not we have the love of God in us or not. The difference between Christians and others is that Christians have Christ living in their hearts and others do not. The love of God is in Christ and therefore in the hearts of those in whom He dwells. The love of God is not in hearts without Christ. We won*t seek the cure until and unless we know we have the disease. We need to know if the main attitude of our hearts is the love of God or hatred. It will be helpful to know the symptoms of love and the symptoms of hatred revealed in the Bible. It is clear about what the love of God looks like and how it behaves. It is also clear about what hatred looks like and what it does.

The love of God is agape love. Wherever the word charity appears in the New Testament it always means agape love.

1 Corinthians 13:4-6: Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

Am I impatient? Am I unkind? Am I envious? Am I proud? Do I behave ungraciously? Am I selfish? Do I have a quick temper? Do I think evil of others? Do I rejoice in sin? Do I rejoice in truth?

Genesis 37:4: And when his (Joseph*s) brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.

If there anyone that I cannot speak peaceably to, it means I hate them.

Matthew 5:9: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Am I a peacemaker or a fighter?

Proverbs 10:12: Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

Proverbs 17:9: He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.

Proverbs 26:28: A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

Have I been cured of hatred? Have I received Jesus?
